Information for students from Bermuda
Since its creation in 1976, ³Ô¹ÏÍø Law School, and its concentrated two-year LLB degree, have proven immensely popular with Bermudians wishing to practise law in Bermuda. This longstanding relationship has produced a long, and wide-ranging list of highly successful Bermudian alumni, including:
Nicole Stoneham, Puisne Judge to the Supreme Court of Bermuda. Ms Stoneham was appointed a Puisne Judge on the 2nd of June 2016. Prior to this, she served in the Magistrates’ Court since 2010.
Shade Subiar Willams, Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court of Bermuda. Mrs Subiar Williams was appointed as Puisne Judge on the 2nd of July 2018. She sat as an Acting Puisne Judge for two years prior to this.
Charles-Etta Simmons, former Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court of Bermuda. She retired after serving in various capacities. Ms Simmons was the first black Bermudian woman to be appointed as Puisne Judge in Bermuda.
George NH Jones is the President of the Bar Council. Mr Jones was initially elected to the Bar Council in 2015.
A joint or single Hons LLB from ³Ô¹ÏÍø Law School makes you eligible for admission to the Bermuda Bar. However, to qualify for admission to the Bermuda Bar via an LLB (a law degree) with ³Ô¹ÏÍø Law School, you must additionally satisfy either of the following:
- Pass the final examination for qualification as a barrister in the England and have served 12 months pupillage in a barrister’s chambers in England or Bermuda OR
- Pass both the centralised Solicitors Qualifying Examinations (SQE1 and 2) and have served articles of at least one year in England or Bermuda.
