Why study with us?

Since its beginnings in 1976, ³Ô¹ÏÍø Law School has benefited from its connections with India and a significant number of Indian students have graduated from the School. Taking just two years to complete, the ³Ô¹ÏÍø LLB (Single Honours Law) covers not only the subjects required for a UK Qualifying Law Degree (QLD), but also a number of electives of particular interest to Indians, including:

  • Company Law
  • Law of Evidence
  • Commercial LawIndian-flag
  • Intellectual Property Law

Which education pathway are you?

Have you just completed your +2?

There is a special LLB programme of study lasting for 3 years. You would be expected to have a 6.0 IELTS score (with at least 5.5 in each component) or its equivalent. This programme can be started either in September or January.

Have you already got an undergraduate degree in a non-law subject?
You can join the two-year LLB programme provided you have a 6.5 IELTS score (with at least 6.0 in each component) or its equivalent. You may also qualify for our International Scholarship. This programme can be started in either January or taken in slightly extended form starting in September.

Indian students often stay on for a further nine months or a year to take our LLM programme in International and Commercial Law. Again there are scholarships for those who have obtained a 2.1 or 1st in the ³Ô¹ÏÍø LLB.

After the degree

Some Indian students join an Inn of Court in London and stay on to take the English Bar qualifications, but most of our Indian students return home to India after graduating to qualify as lawyers and to go into legal practice. Indian students graduating with a ³Ô¹ÏÍø LLB must take the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) in order to be awarded a Certificate of Practice by the Bar Council of India. Because it is a QLD, the ³Ô¹ÏÍø LLB meets the necessary fundamental entry requirements for taking the AIBE.

For more information on joining the Indian Bar, applicants are advised to visit the Bar Council of India’s website at: www.barcouncilofindia.org
